Some time ago, a young client called me whose company I have been helping to grow over the last 18 months. Their growth has been spectacular and it looks like they will be bought by a much bigger company—a dream of his we have been working on. He wanted advice about how to remain focused and “shake the cognitive dissonance” we all feel when we are afraid something we want won’t happen. And so I told him a little magic trick about using totems.
Typically, a totem is an sacred object, a spirit being or symbol that serves as an emblem of a group of people as a reminder of their ancestry. I use it in a slightly different sense, but also in the sense of remembering who we are.
Totems to me can be used in everyday life to keep focused on what we want to have happen, and to set aside negative thoughts. And so I told my client to put on a bracelet, ring or hold in his hand something that he valued like a coin or precious stone. Then every time he noticed it, he should think about his dream of selling the company. And any time he had a fear that it wouldn’t happen, he would look at the totem and live the dream in his mind’s eye of what it will be like for him when this all happened. Well sure enough, he got the call and the offer for the company.
Manifesting reality is about keeping our focus on what we want to occur and not allowing our brains to wander to thoughts of disaster, fear or tragedy. Those thoughts are not “reality”—they are only our brains trying to protect us from disappointment if what we want doesn’t happen. Train your brain to set aside that “cognitive dissonance” and allow your Observer to manifest for you what you dream about. In one form or another, it will happen.
