The Ghost In The Machine

The idea that science and spirituality are not only compatible, but their source is the same, isn’t new.

As far back as the era of Einstein, he was quotes as saying, “Anyone who becomes seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that there is a spirit manifest in the laws of the universe, a spirit vastly superior to that of man.”

In this sense, a “spirit” is not meant to describe something like a mechanical force, or gravity, or electromagnetism, things like that.  To me, Einstein’s reference to the word, “spirit” means consciousness.  And what is consciousness, but thought–the thoughts that we think.  It was interesting that initially held the opposite position–that the Universe was just a great “machine”.   And so for Einstein to have made this huge reversal suggests that something became so convincing  that he finally expressed the view that the universe is alive and we are part of it.

During the course of each day, we all experience what we call “good” things happening as well as “bad” things happening. But if we take away those labels, we’re really just saying that some experiences are expected, and some are unexpected–and then we call the unexpected events “bad”. And we then go through our days
