The Ghost In The Machine

The idea that science and spirituality are not only compatible, but their source is the same, isn’t new.

As far back as the era of Einstein, he was quotes as saying, “Anyone who becomes seriously involved in the pursuit of science becomes convinced that there is a spirit manifest in the laws of the universe, a spirit vastly superior to that of man.”

In this sense, a “spirit” is not meant to describe something like a mechanical force, or gravity, or electromagnetism, things like that.  To me, Einstein’s reference to the word, “spirit” means consciousness.  And what is consciousness, but thought–the thoughts that we think.  It was interesting that initially held the opposite position–that the Universe was just a great “machine”.   And so for Einstein to have made this huge reversal suggests that something became so convincing  that he finally expressed the view that the universe is alive and we are part of it.

The Brain on Slowed-Down Time

Experiences of slowed-down time may not just be “in our heads.” Does how we show up for a situation in our minds (the conscious product of our brains’ firing neurons) affect our physical experience of the world—in particular, our experience of time?  Just about anyone with a clinical background would say that unusual and unexplainable
